remittance man
«Человек, живущий на присылаемые деньги». Неудобный, вызывающий стыд член богатой семьи, которого посылают жить в дальнюю страну. Деньги is remitted (переводятся) ему в обмен на обещание, что он не вернётся домой. Это выражение бытует со времён Британской империи, когда существовало великое множество колоний, куда можно было послать «неудобных» людей.

Some settlers in Kenya were remittance men who actually made a success of their lives away from the stifling and restrictive atmosphere of their own families. — Некоторые поселенцы в Кении, имевшие репутацию изгоев и неудачников в глазах своих родственников, всё-таки добились успеха вдали от удушающей, сковывающей атмосферы своих семей.
